Jewellery made by hand, at our own bench.

Engagement rings, heirloom redesigns and one-of-a-kind pieces, drawn, carved, cast and set by Walter Zimochod in our workshop on Quebec Street.

The house

One jeweller, one bench, and every step done on the premises.

Zimochod Jewellers opened in 1988. Since then, Walter has made rings, pendants and commissions for families across Guelph and for clients well beyond it, in gold, platinum and silver, with precious and semi-precious stones.

Nothing is sent out. The sketch, the wax, the casting, the setting and the final polish all happen in our own workshop, where old-world craft meets modern equipment.

About Walter and the store

“Self-expression comes in many forms, and my design palette can communicate them all in classic fashion.”

The making

Four steps, one workshop

  1. Ink sketch of a free-form pendant with set stones, signed by Walter

    01 Sketch

We talk, then Walter draws. You see the piece on paper before any metal is touched.

  2. A gloved hand working a small piece under a jeweller's flex-shaft tool

    02 Carve

The design is carved in wax, or modelled, and a mould is made.

  3. A ring held in a setter's ball vice in the workshop

    03 Cast

We cast in gold, silver or platinum, right here, then shape and finish the metal by hand.

  4. The workbench with a microscope, lamps and setting tools

    04 Set & polish

Stones are set under the microscope, and the piece is polished until it's ready to wear.
